Three projects with SOI technology that AED Vantage manages today!
Learn what Silicon on Insulator (SOI) is, how you can benefit from it and why AED Vantage is involved with the technology in various projects.

What is SOI Technology?
Silicon on Insulator (SOI) is a specially constructed field-effect transistor or entire silicon circuits in which an ultra-thin insulating layer (buried-oxide, BOX) is used. Ordinary silicon circuits are designed without a BOX layer and are located directly on the silicon wafer. The disadvantage is that the charge for switching the transistor is reduced. With SOI Technology, on the other hand, shorter switching times are achieved due to the lower leakage currents. The result is low power consumption, versatility, exceptional high frequency performance, high radiation resistance and reliability. This family of semiconductor technologies simplifies processes and increases efficiency at the same time, which is why it is so essential for the automotive industry.
The following three projects in which we are involved reveal just how innovative AED Vantage is using SOI
1. Voice recognition in the automotive industry – improving the driving experience and safety
As a company, we take driver safety very seriously. That’s why we deal with the processing of sounds and voice commands inside and outside the vehicle.
We are currently dealing with …
- Exterior command recognition: Imagine telling your car from the outside to open the trunk or roll down the windows – conveniently and hands-free!
- Background noise discrimination: Improves driver assistance by distinguishing important sounds from background noise, even when the vehicle is moving.
- Ensure clarity for interior commands: Inside the vehicle, our systems accurately recognize voice commands and filter out noise to ensure clarity and precision.
- Karaoke in the car: Turn your car into a mobile karaoke booth! Sing along to your favorite songs with crystal-clear sound quality.
- Microphones: Enhancing voice command features and in-cabin interactions.
2. Multizone Architecture in Automotive – Optimizing system integration for greater functionality.
Our goal is to drive vehicle functionality and user experience by integrating the latest technologies. We are already using ASA Motion Link (ASA-ML) to enable high-resolution image processing with enormous data rates. Because Automotive Ethernet is spreading rapidly in the automotive industry, we are not only working with Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-T1), but already today with Multigigabit Automotive Ethernet applications (10GBASE-T1). In future, Multigigabit Automotive Ethernet will be used primarily between the central control unit and the zonal gateways/switches in order to process the large volumes of data.
Our current projects include …
- Camera Modules: Improving safety and navigation with high-resolution imaging under usage of new technologies such as ASA-ML.
- Display Modules: Offering interactive and customizable user interfaces.
- UWB Technology: Ensuring precise location tracking and communication.
3. Backscatter systems in industrial applications – increasing the efficiency and range of data communication.
By using this brilliant technology, called backscatter or backscattering, devices can “talk” to each other by simply reflecting existing radio waves and adding a tiny bit of their own data. It’s like using a mirror to send signals across a room – efficient and innovative!
We are currently looking at the following areas …
- Energy efficiency: The devices communicate without needing their own power source, which is perfect for sustainability and reduces installation costs.
- Versatility: From retail trailers to remote-controlled sensors – the application possibilities are endless.
